Well, maybe the timing is bad, but the price was right, so Nhut and I joined 24hr Fitness. They had an offer for an all-club membership at the single club price, so we went for it. There is a club pretty close to home in San Jose, and as it turns out, there’s a 24hr Fintess club near “home” in Austin too. -) I think I should have my bike shipped to Austin before the summer. When I was there last time, in 1995, I bought my bike, and rode a few nights a week along the Shoal Creek Trail, and I’m sure I could do that again. The gravel trail won’t work so well with the roller blades though.

Boston, Austin, what’s the difference? So, plans change… I will be in Austin this summer. It’s a city, anyway. I just have to try hard to avoid eating too much Tex-Mex and BBQ, bad for my cholesterol, I’m sure. I hope I get to see my old pal Jayne while I’m in Texas. -)

Oh, it sure looks like the persimmon tree is going to have a lot of fruit this year. And, one of the tomato plants already has three tomatoes on it. Nhut bought and planted another 6 sweet bell pepper plants this past Sunday, so we will have green, yellow, red and purple bell peppers this summer. The funny thing is Nhut says he doesn’t really like bell peppers! Oh well, I do.

Well, we went to New York City, took a bunch of pictures, as usual. We saw “RENT” and “42nd Street” on Broadway while we were there. Pictures here.

I’m not a big Ted Kennedy fan, but I think he’s pretty much on the mark with this quote, despite what the conservative spinmeisters are saying…

“This is the pattern and the record of the Bush administration [on] Iraq, jobs, Medicare, schools, issue after issue — mislead, deceive, make up the needed facts, smear the character of any critics,” he said. “Again and again, we see this cynical, despicable strategy playing out.”

Kennedy also said recent statements by former White House counterterrorism adviser Richard Clarke showed the administration’s “inattention to the grave and gathering threat of terrorism before 9/11 and the president’s preoccupation with Iraq.”

“This misguided war in Iraq has distracted us from the real war we must win and made that war harder to win, because even as we combat terror, it has left America more and more isolated in the world,” Kennedy said.
